Our Project
This project focuses on Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD).
MASLD’s prevalence is rapidly increasing worldwide and has become the leading cause of liver transplant. It is the hepatic expression of a constellation of metabolic disorders that increase the overall cardiovascular and oncologic risk of a significant number of patients. Liver transplant is the only definitive cure once decompensated advanced liver disease develops.
MASLD is a growing concern in Iowa due to increasing rates of obesity and diabetes.
